Butcher blocks, Cutting boards & Serving boards care procedures

Do not place wooden products in the dishwasher or
submerge it completely in a tub of water, the wood will absorb the water and
cause it to crack, swell or warp.

Do not use furniture polish, paste wax or other
household cleaners that contain harsh chemical compounds.

Do not use food-based oils such as olive oil to treat
your butcher block or cutting board, use food grade mineral oil.
·
Store away from heating appliances such as a stove
that may cause the boards to become excessively dry.
Daily Cleaning
For health and safety, always begin food preparation with a clean surface and tools. For clean up after light use, such as slicing bread or prepping vegetables, wipe down wood cutting boards with hot, soapy water, then rinse with hot, clear water.
Wipe up any excess water and allow to air dry, or pat dry with clean paper towels.
Deep Cleaning
For a
deeper clean and to cut through grease, natural products like baking soda,
salt, vinegar, and lemon juice are all food-safe options.
Regular Maintenance
In addition to regular cleaning & deep cleaning, your wooden products need to be oiled regularly. This will treat, protect, revitalize & moisturise their cellular structure and helps to prevent cracking, splitting, and warping. Depending on how heavily your butcher block & cutting boards are used, a weekly or biweekly treatment with oil should be applied. Use a food-grade mineral oil & beeswax. Below products to be used for best results.

How to use Bosveld Dekor Mineral oil?
1. Clean – Wipe it down your wooden product with soapy water and a
cloth. Never submerge your Bosveld Dekor products in water. Wood is porous and it will soak up the water causing your cutting boards and wooden products to crack and warp.
2. Oil – Bosveld Dekor Board must be dry. Use a clean cloth and apply a generous amount of oil to the wood surface and allow to penetrate for at least 20 minutes (or as long as possible).
3. Buff – Use a dry clean cloth or paper towel, polish off any oil so that the board does not feel damp or sticky.
Tiny cracks cause bacteria to grow, the Bosveld Dekor Food Grade Mineral oil will seep into the cracks keeping your board sanitary. We do recommend oiling your Bosveld Dekor products as often as possible in the beginning. To properly oil (season) new or raw wood cutting board surfaces, apply 3-4 coats before using. Wipe away excess oil before use. For best result use Bosveld Dekor Wood Wax after oiling.

How to use Bosveld Dekor Wood Wax?
1. Wax on – Using a soft cloth, buff the wax into the wood in a circular pattern, forming a thin coat. Allow wax to penetrate for 1 hour (or as long as possible).
2. Buff – Once the wax has soaked into the board,
buff it with a soft cloth.
